Savador Dali Aliyah – 1968

Shorewood Press, New York, published the Salvador Dali Aliyah book in 1968, which includes 25 colored lithographs. Mixed-media paintings served as the basis for these lithographs, created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. David Ben Gurion, who wrote the introduction included with the book, also signed the last page of text. The book features additional text by Gerson D. Cohen. The edition totals 275 plus proofs, with 250 books printed on Arches paper (numbered 1/250 – 250/250) and 10 on japon paper (numbered A/J – J/J). The author, artist, and publisher received several sets. A light blue hinged box houses the book, which features images of size 20 1/16 x 15 11/16″ on 25 x 19 5/8″ Arches paper. Despite minor wear and rubbing to the case, the text and artwork are in fine condition.

Description from the above reference.

The description from the noted reference describes the title as a phrase appearing 20 times in the Bible, referencing “the Land flowing with milk and honey” that God promised to the Jewish people. This phrase captures the essence of the Zionist dream.

Dali’s portrayal includes a lush landscape reminiscent of the view from the airport to Jerusalem, with three figures above it symbolizing fecundity, blessing, and music, alongside a deep blue image reaching towards the heavens, which also feature a dark rain cloud. This emphasizes the land’s reliance on rain for its fertility.

The Field catalog lists this work as number 67-1, with Lopsinger numbering it from 1193 to 1217.
