Pencil Drawings by Carla Taylor

We are hosting a one artist show for Carla Taylor of Minooka, Illinois with a reception on Friday, October 23rd from 6 - 8 pm. The show runs through November 6th and is titled "From Plattville to Paris." Carla who is known for drawing the lost farms and vistas of Will and Kendell Counties Illinois also includes works from her trip to Paris. We will have over 30 pieces of art on display.

Carla's statement about the show follows:

I never thought I needed to go to Paris, but in 2007 I went...

Growing up on a farm near Plattville in northern Illinois, I developed a fascination with the rural landscape; I wanted to spend my time watching, "seeing" and recording what I saw - which led me to study art books of all kinds. I went to Paris to see for myself those vast treasures of art in a beautiful old city that I knew only from the art history books.

A pilgrimage has been defined (by Webster) as a long journey made to a sacred place as an act of devotion or a visit to a place held in honor. But there is a sense in which we are all pilgrims in our every day lives. We journey to and from our homes, our places of work, school, and our meetings with friends and neighbors. Much of what we encounter daily is "sacred space" but we forget. There can be sacred space of an individual sort - places that may not be recognized by a formal religious group - where something of the divine has touched a person's inner being. A simple walk can be a pilgrimage of sorts. Thoreau once wrote about those who got to "the Holy Land" in their walks. That is what I mean for this show to be about. There can be signs of Beauty and transcendent moments anyplace along our path; we just need to take some time and remember to notice .
