Salvador Dali L’Alchimie 1975

The Salvador Dali L’Alchimie etching with drypoint, according to Lopsinger, was published under two contracts; one in 1973 and one in 1975. The edition in 1975 contained hand coloring while the edition from 1973 did not. The total tirage for the 1975 edition is given as 840 on various papers. The etching in color is on Arches.  Salvador Dali signed the etching in the lower right.  The etching is numbered 37/250. The image size is 20 1/2 x 16 1/2″ and the sheet is 29 1/2 x 22 1/2.” Lopsinger indicates that there are many pulls on paper made after 1980.  These etchings are considered after Dali.

Field indicates that there has been only one etching seen, printed in sepia and is from an edition of 50. The only one known according to Field is 38/50, but low and behold this one is 29/50. Now there are two that are known and this is by far and away the best image anywhere. He goes to great lengths to describe the afters that were created, but there is no image, no size and the discussion is confusing. Thus, in Europe, this etching is considered authentic and is the U.S., there would be a question as to whether it is after Dali or Dali.
