Louis Icart – French (1888 – 1950)

Louis Icart etchings

were created of women from the art deco period. His art epitomizes the image of the female form during that time, and he often used his wife Fanny as his model. He used a combination of techniques to create over 500 etchings and these include drypoint, etching, and sugaring. Furthermore each Louis Icart etching was enhanced with hand coloring. However, he usually didn’t do the colored etching, the hand coloring would have been done by his studio. Also, he generally hand signed his etchings in the lower right corner.

In the limited edition book “Buying Works by Icart,” we describe the techniques in more detail. The book gives auction prices of Louis Icart etchings and is currently sold out. Born in Toulouse France, he began drawing at an early age while interested in fashion, and became famous for his sketches, full sized etchings on paper and erotic illustrated books which were sold mainly in France. His bookplates were unsigned but his etchings were signed in pencil. He created pastel enhanced lithographs, posters, postcards, and oils on canvas.

We display artwork that is guaranteed to be original and authentic. We have a good selection of rare original drawings and almost all of Louis Icart illustrated books. On our web site we display several of his posters, lithographs, post cards and menu covers. We can have more than one of each Icart etching, book or lithograph in stock and the pricing will vary depending on the condition of the etching.

E-mail us for a condition report and pricing. Because we don’t give firm prices or appraisals over the phone you should e-mail us, but we enjoy talking to you, so call.  Note, we are not aggregators who take a percentage of the price to list a Louis Icart etching for a Gallery.  This practice results in a higher price and the etchings will be from someone who isn’t an expert in Louis Icart.
