Louis Icart - Scared

The Louis Icart Scared etching fits the description that his etchings depict elegant women during the art deco period.
He created more than of 500 etchings by using different techniques. These include
etching and dry point combined with hand coloring. Furthermore, the book
“Buying Works by Icart.” describes his methods. Mainly he created full sized etchings.
But he also liked erotic illustrated books, and pastel enhanced lithographs.
Futher, he produced menu covers, advertising prints, and oils on canvas.

Condition Report

Image Size: 10 3/4 x 14 7/8″
Paper Size: 17 x 20 1/2″
The paper is heavy wove with a full AD VALCKE watermark. The work has been professionally conserved.
There are no pinholes, scratches, foxing, or tears to the image or sheet. There are framer’s notations in the margins and a small circular stain in the far right margin.
The signature is strong (lr) and the EM blind stamp (ll) is fine and is together with the notation “219.”
The copyright notation (ur) reads “Copyright 1920 by the F. H. Bresler & Co, Milwaukee USA” and is strong and sharp. The publisher’s notation (ul) reads “publie par L’Estampe Moderne, 12 rue Godot de Mauren, Paris 1920” and is clear and sharp.
The hand coloring is exceptional.
Overall the image is an A- and the sheet is an A-.
