History of Currier & Ives

Nathaniel Currier was 22 years old when he established his printing business. The location was 1 Wall Street. The business grew rapidly. In 1852 he hired James Ives as a bookkeeper. Ives was a great help to the rapidly expanding business and his work merited a promotion. He became a partner is 1857. His idea as to what was salable made him an invaluable addition to the firm. This partnership became knows as Currier & Ives. This partnership became knows as Currier & Ives.

They published about 11,000 prints depicting every phase of life and progress in the US during its greatest period of growth. Currier & Ives prints cover an endless variety of subject matter. Dali created six individual lithographs of Currier & Ives prints.
